Trying to write and getting not even half of the job done, that is exactly how I am feeling.
If the challenges for writers are half as good as some think they are, then by all means try them, I do not think I could do them. I rather challenge myself then have people constantly barking in my ear to finish something.
We write when inspiration strike, sometimes it is in the middle of the night, sometimes it is in a dream, other times you are simply staring at something, a plant, a tree, the mountains, a cup of coffee and suddenly feel overwhelmed with the need to write.
But of course, if you do not write it quickly then you will probably not get the job done in the time you promised; being self-published has its pros and cons, on the one hand, you can write and do what you please, without having someone constantly reminding you of deadlines. On the other hand with a deadline being forced at you, you know you have to do it or have everyone in the back faint and have a minor heart-attack because it does not look like it well get done on time.
However some writers work better under pressure, I sure have worked under similar conditions and have finished just in time to deliver and have to review it quickly for mistakes, other times I simply want to write when the inspiration strikes without having to worry about a thing, just finish it and make it a fun experience.
